Linear Current Collectors
We manufacture a comprehensive range of carbon collector inserts for pantographs, third rail, and trolleybus heads.
Carbon has many operational and financial advantages over metallic materials as a linear current collector. The benefits are becoming increasingly apparent as more of the world’s transport systems switch to carbon. Its lower mass and ability to deposit a protective patina on the collector wire or rail gives major benefits that cannot be matched by any other collector material.
On overhead current collection systems the advantages of carbon include longer collector strip life, longer wire life, better current collection, noise reduction, no welding of collector to wire, the virtual elimination of electrical interference, and the ability to operate at high speeds.
On third and fourth rail systems carbon does not inflict mechanical damage to the rail compared with steel, cast-iron, copper or bronze shoes. Its relatively light mass minimises mechanical hammer damage to the rail and carbon’s self-lubricating properties reduce friction and wear.
